Newbridge School - Consultation to change the time for the end of the school day

The Governing Body of Newbridge School proposes to make a change to the time for the end of the school day, to be effective from 1st September 2021. This change will mean that the school day will change from the previous time of 3.00pm, to the new time of 2.40pm. The start time of the school day will not be affected and will stay at 8.30am. The school will continue to provide five hours of teaching per day and 25 minutes of registration as before; this will not change.

The earlier finish for the school will be found by shortening the lunchbreak from the previous 45 minutes to 25 minutes. This lunchbreak was felt to be too long and left many pupils with too much time outside in the middle of the day, with little space and sometimes very wet weather. The school has been running a very similar lunchtime since September 2020 (slightly shorter than the proposed new time) – this has worked very successfully and pupils and staff at the school are overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed new time. The new time will also allow the school to run a ‘split lunchtime’, meaning that there is more space for pupils to sit and eat in the canteen and also in the school outside areas. This would mean that the school would have the capacity to offer more activities outside, and also there would be more covered space for wet weather.

he school is offering a virtual meeting where members of the SLT will present more detail on the rationale for this change, answer any questions and also explain how families can submit any comments to be considered. This meeting will be held on: Tuesday 18th May at 5.00pm. Invitations to this virtual meeting will be sent out to all families via the school app MyEd in advance of the meeting. You can also request an invitation by emailing:
