Windows XP and Office 2003 end of life
by learn @caerphilly - Tuesday, 30 September 2014, 10:30 AM

Extended support for Windows XP and Office 2003 expires on the 14th April 2015

click here for bulletin from the Crown Commercial Service confirming this deadline and also highlighting the exposure of your school to outsider intrusion via the vulnerabilities caused by not upgrading to a Microsoft Supported Operated System of Windows 7 or above.

After 14th April 2015, we recommend that any devices running Windows XP and/or Microsoft Office 2003 are not connected to the network because of the high risk of cyber-attacks caused by the vulnerabilities.

IT Services will be able to provide advice and estimated costs for the replacement or upgrade of existing devices running Windows XP and/or Microsoft Office 2003. We will also make sure that the upgrade to Windows 7 or above is completed with minimum disruption to the school. Please contact myself direct or speak to one of our IT Support Engineers that visits the schools for more information.

If you require advice regarding funding for the upgrade, please contact your School Finance Officer in the Education Finance Department.
