Half Term visit to Krakow

During October half term 27 pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 visited Krakow in Poland for a Religious Studies trip with Miss Bartley, Miss Bishop and Mr Jones. Pupils met a Holocaust survivor who spoke about her experiences as a young child in Auschwitz. We were given a tour of the notorious death camps Auschwitz Birkenau – this included a visit to the gas chambers. At Birkenau we walked along the train track that is often seen in films and documentaries about the war. We also visited a former ghetto, a synagogue, the Jewish quarter and also the castle in Krakow. Pupils tried Polish food and made friends with pupils in different year groups. They also enjoyed spending money in the famous Krakow cloth market and local shopping centre. This trip is a superb experience for our pupils who gain understanding of another culture and the reality of the Holocaust.
