Dear Parents/Carers
I wrote to you in my first week telling you how pleased I was to be appointed Head here at Lewis Girls’. I know how committed the staff are to providing your child, and our community, with the best possible experience of education. I am now asking for your support in setting a really high standard for the girls.
Firstly, there is clear evidence that pupils who have 95%, or more, attendance perform significantly better in school. I want that - 95% - to be the standard for good attendance in school. You can help by encouraging your child to attend every day and by informing us early in the morning if they are absent. Please visit our website to see the standard for attendance we are proposing in full.
Please can you make sure we have an up to date mobile phone number and inform us when it changes? Our ‘Teachers 2 Parents’ text system is really helping to keep the children safe. It is also an effective way for us to get in touch (immediately) if they have not arrived in school.
On a separate matter, I know that a current trend is for facial piercings. I want to avoid difficulties in school, so am reminding you that the agreed rule is one small earring in each lower ear lobe. I hope this fad will pass but would ask that if you intend to allow this procedure, it is done at the start of the summer holidays so it can be removed in school during term time.
Finally, I would also like to know what you think on all other issues to do with Lewis Girls’ and have printed some questions on the back of this sheet for you to respond to. I would appreciate your honesty and am happy for it to be anonymous. If you want a response, please add your name and contact number, and I will be in touch. Responses can be posted in a box in Reception.
Thank you in advance.
Yours sincerely
H Duncan (Ms)
