27th February 2012

Dear Parent/Guardian

I am writing to inform you that the Welsh Government gave Welsh Schools two additional training days that could only be used if the school did not close over the winter due to snow.

To help with your planning, please see below the dates of all other INSET dates for the rest of this school year:

29th June 2012

18th July 2012

19th July 2012

On another matter, you may know we have just started a discussion on improving the smartness of our uniform. Please be assured there will be a proper consultation period and any agreed changes will be phased in to reduce any unnecessary costs to parents. Until such time, the uniform is as agreed in the prospectus.

I have already been pleased to meet a number of you through Parents’ Evenings and individual meetings. I look forward to continuing to work with you.

Yours sincerely

H Duncan (Ms)

Headteacher

Letter from Headteacher
by Mr M Yeoman - Tuesday, 3 January 2012, 12:08 PM

Dear Parents and Carers

I am delighted to write my first letter to you as Headteacher of our school. It seems fitting that I take up this post at the start of a brand new year.

I have spoken to all the girls in the school today and am already impressed by the students. They have responded positively to the message about their need to have high hopes, big dreams and aspirational ambitions. This is how we will continue to improve Lewis Girls’ into an outstanding place to learn and work.

We have a great teaching and non teaching staff who are absolutely committed to giving the ‘best deal possible’ to all the pupils in our care. This partnership extends to you as parents and carers. From my experience, the best schools are those who work closely with families to ensure that their children receive a consistent and clear message about the importance of education.

The idea of a ‘job for life’ really does appear to be a thing of the past so we all need to do what we can to give our girls the knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in their adult life. You can do this by ensuring your child gets to school every day. Also, by taking an interest in their learning and letting us know if something is wrong or worrying them.

I am convinced that the relationship between school and the family is strengthened through effective communication. Please use our website to keep updated on information. Finally, I hope to meet all of you over the next few weeks and months so that you can put a face to a name. If you have any questions or need to raise any queries with me, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

I look forward to working closely with you and will be writing to you again soon.

Yours sincerely

H Duncan (Ms)
