As part of National school Sports week and the involvement with the Olympic International Inspiration we had a number of activities taking place throughout the week.  The week started on Monday 25th June am with a torch relay being passed between each of our feeder primary schools.  The torches used were from the winners of the torch competitions  held in each school and we were also  fortunate to have an official torch and torchbearer who run in the Olympic torch relay in Cardiff.  The winning torches were run by our yr 9 sports leaders and young ambassadors.  During the afternoon on Monday 25th June our yr 6 feeder school primary children along with our yr 9 sports leaders formed a human olympic rings on the astro at Blackwood Comprehensive School.  On Wednesday 27th June we then held a mini olympics which was run and organised by our yr 9 sports leaders.  Yr 5 pupils from our feeder primary schools arrived early and sat in one of the 12 country teams that they were representing that day for the opening ceremony.  Flags had been designed by pupils and the hall had been decorated with the countries flags.  The torch winners walked into the opening ceremony to Chariots of Fire played by our music dept.  The games then began with our sports leaders teaching and organising each event. 12 events in total.  It finally ended with a closing awards ceremony in the afternoon.  Bronze, silver and gold medals were awarded to pupils on a podium with the national anthems of that country being played.  An Indonesian dance was performed to share our relationship with our international inspiration schools out in Indonesia.  The outstanding effort of our sports leaders, sports buddies, sports ambassadors, participation of our yr 6 and 5 pupils made the special event extremely successful.
