Well done, Year 11 2014, and congratulations on your examination results

We are pleased with the performance of pupils in this year’s examinations. Pupils of all abilities have done very well and we are proud of their achievements.
48% of pupils achieved the important indicator of 5 A*-C grades including English, Mathematics and GCSE Science. 70% of pupils achieved the equivalent of 5A*-C grades (which is our highest figure so far) and 96% of pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs at A*-G grades. GCSE results in English, Maths and Science show an improvement on 2013, and results in English and Science were the highest so far with substantial rises. There was a small improvement in Mathematics on last year’s performance. 425 entries achieved were A* or A grades at GCSE, and the percentage of A*/A grades achieved by pupils was 23.8% (against a Wales figure of 19.4%).

Every pupil in the school achieved a recognised qualification and the performance of pupils in most subjects has been in line with our expectations. Pupils of all abilities at Blackwood Comprehensive School have performed well. As well as GCSEs, pupils have performed well in other qualifications such as BTEC (Business Studies, Science), NVQ (in French/Business), ASDAN (Life Skills) and the Welsh Baccalaureate. In many of these BTEC subjects pupils achieved merit and distinctions, reflecting top national performance.
