Healthy Schools
Congratulations to CL & HB for their hard work in implementing and sustaining changes to the health curriculum in the school.

On Mondays, any pupils with notes or cheques must put them into envelopes and place them in the box at the back of the canteen. The canteen does not provide the envelopes.

Basic Skills Quality Assurance
Our school has been awarded the Basic Skills Quality Standard in recognition of the outstanding work we do to support pupils in our basic skills target groups.

All these pupils are in mainstream classes, and the assessor was highly complimentary about the quality of interventions in literacy and numeracy deployed in the school. The assessormet many staff members and observed two lessons which were descried as outstanding.
Achieving this Standard is a real challenge, and has taken a huge amount of work and effort. Congratulations to all members of the Basic Skills team.

Investors in Families
We are the 1st Welsh Secondary School to be re-accredited and granted this prestigious reward. Our assessor was extremely impressed and paid tribute to the quality of the work and the 'passion' for working with our families. Well Done CL, AR and all staff involved.

Family Reading Sessions
by K Chung - Tuesday, 6 January 2015, 12:04 PM
Family coffee mornings and afternoons take place every Wednesdays in the Community College where parents work on activities with their children to improve reading skills and encourage enjoyment of reading.
Parents and pupils in Year 7 selected a book with a Christmas theme and created Christmas cards about their chosen book. Some of the books they read included; A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Suess, Santa is coming to the Welsh Valleys by Steve Smallman, Horrible History (Christmas) by Terry Deary and Martin Brown, The Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore and Yuck's Crazy Christmas by Matt and Dave.
A big thank you to all the parents and pupils that took part.
